Ibaan has been renowned for being the home of "kulambo" (mosquito net), which at the time was the most lucrative business in town. Ibaan is also well-known for its banana-wrapped "tamales, handwoven textiles, pork-based dishes, and sugarcane, from which the festival "Les Kuhliembo".

Ibaan was then just a barrio of Batangas, which is today Batangas City. The first Poblacion was established at Matala, presently a part of Ibaan, four kilometers from the aforementioned town, in the year 1780. Many dwellers approved of the Poblacion's transfer and official separation from the town of Batangas in 1832.

Located 96 kilometers (60 miles) south of Manila. With five distinct communities surrounding it, its location is extremely unique. The northwest is bordered by San Jose, the northeast is Lipa City, the east is Rosario, the southeast is Taysan, and the southwest is Batangas City.
